Average Suitcase Contents Worth More Than Holiday
Wednesday, May 28th, 2008
An average UK holidaymaker’s suitcase contains goods worth over £1,500 - more than twice the cost of a standard trip.
In a poll of 5,000 people by Holiday Inn, it was found that travellers regularly pack digital cameras, mp3 players, mobile phones and electric shavers in their luggage - even for short breaks.
The average holidaymaker crams more than £600 worth of clothes into their suitcase, with around £140 worth remaining unworn.
Chris Hale, spokesman for Holiday Inn, said: "The findings of this poll are incredible, particularly considering Brits take nearly as much away for a long weekend as they do for a full 14-day holiday."
Meanwhile, Heathrow, which is Britain’s biggest airport, has been labelled the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ for luggage.
Figures released by the Air Transport Users Council, showed that an average of 16.6 bags per 1,000 were delayed by flights operated by major European airlines.
